Historic Remix of Elvis Presley's A Little Less Conversation Has Everyone Talking 6/16/02
Update 6/16/02: The JXL remix of A Little Less Conversation hit number one on the UK singles chart today. This is the first time for Elvis to top the UK chart in 25 years and it breaks his tie with the Beatles for most UK number ones. His total now stands at 18.

The following is a press release from BMG:

HISTORIC REMIX OF ELVIS PRESLEY’S A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION HAS EVERYONE TALKING

RCA/BMG AND ELVIS PRESLEY ENTERPRISES SET TO RELEASE FIRST REMIXED PRESLEY SONG BY A CONTEMPORARY DJ/ARTIST

Recognized worldwide as one of the most influential figures in music and pop culture, Elvis Presley is today on the verge of another career milestone, nearly 25 years after his death. Presley’s classic A Little Less Conversation, re-mixed by progressive DJ JXL, will be released worldwide by RCA/BMG as a commercial single on the 10th of June (USA release on June 25). The track has been tapped as the soundtrack to Nike’s already highly talked-about, worldwide advertising campaign, Secret Tournament that began airing worldwide on the 4th of April and is scheduled to run through this summer’s football World Cup.

This advertising campaign is Nike’s most integrated and ambitious to date and now RCA/BMG and Elvis Presley Enterprises plan to issue the remix as a single worldwide. The commercial release of A Little Less Conversation is also paving the way for RCA/ BMG’s release of ELV1S 30 #1 Hits this coming fall. “The support from Nike confirms the contemporary appeal of Elvis Presley today and sets the stage for this important Elvis Presley release,” said Joe DiMuro, Senior Vice President, Strategic Marketing, BMG Music.

The UK is the first territory to release the single and the reaction has been a mix of delight, surprise and respect. It has already received exceedingly high radio support, with the majority of national and regional stations (including Capital FM and Radio 1) adding it to their playlist over 6 weeks up-front. Among those who are featuring the single include Pete Tong, Sara Cox, Dr Fox, Steve Lamaq and Jo Whiley (who has had more requests for this record on her show, than any other in her history at Radio 1).

JXL is an Amsterdam based progressive DJ/producer who most recently produced the world class premier of DJ Sasha. This release of his treatment to the Elvis classic marks the first time in RCA’s history that the company will mass market a Presley song that has been re-mixed by a contemporary DJ/artist.

A Little Less Conversation perfectly balances the intensity and competitiveness of the football action and makes the ad even more accessible and entertaining,” commented Stefan Olander, Nike EMiEA’s Brand Communications Director.

“Initially, we're always wary of any proposal that involves altering Elvis' master recordings in any way, but this JXL remix just blew us away. Elvis is a great and constant source of inspiration for the creativity of other artists, and this is an outstanding example of that,” said Jack Soden, President & CEO of Elvis Presley Enterprises.

‘The combination of the Nike ad, excitement around the World Cup and remix will deliver Elvis to a new generation of music fans in an unexpected, cool and compelling way,” said Adam Bradley, Brand Partnership Marketing Manager, BMG UK & Ireland.

The June 10 release in CD and vinyl will include a radio edit version, an extended version and the original Presley song. The United States release is set for June 25. This marks the beginning of a whole year of Elvis activity within Bertelsmann, BMG’s parent company, culminating in the release of ELV1S 30 #1 Hits, the first ever collection of 30 Presley number one singles on one CD. Additional products include a four CD set entitled Elvis: Today, Tomorrow and Forever, two new Elvis Presley books, The Elvis Treasures and The Girl’s Guide to Elvis from Bertelsmann’s Random House division as well as an Elvis Presley Estate sanctioned special edition magazine from Gruner & Jahr USA Publishing. These products will come to market during the months of June and August.

BMG is the global music division of Bertelsmann AG, one of the world’s leading media companies, with annual revenues of $17.86 billion. BMG owns more than 200 record labels in 42 countries including Arista Records, RCA Records, RCA Label Group – Nashville, and Ariola. In addition, BMG owns one of the world’s largest music publishing companies.
